Using a VPN with Workbench

How VPNs can affect the connection in Workbench.

Updated today

🔒 Does Workbench Support VPN Use?

In short, yes, it should work. Workbench can work with a VPN enabled, but there are some limitations that you'll need to pay attention to.

  • VPNs can be enabled on only one device at a time

  • If both devices have a VPN enabled, the Workbench connection can fail to work

⚠️ What to Do If You Can't Connect with a VPN Enabled

If you're having trouble connecting and you have a VPN enabled, try the steps below to see if it helps:

  • Try disabling the VPN on one device and try again

  • Disable the VPN on both devices and try again

  • If you're on a corporate VPN and don't have permission to disable it, check in with your IT Department. Some corporate VPNs are more restrictive and can interfere with the connection.

Even without VPN, all Workbench sessions are protected with 256-bit AES encryption. Your screen data is never stored or cached anywhere.
