Learn about Luna Display's 4K and 5K resolution support

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Quick answer:

  • USB-C Luna unit required for 5K resolutions

  • HDMI Luna only supports up to 4K resolution

  • Auto-selects best resolution by default

  • Manual adjustment available in Luna Display Preferences

  • Up to 60Hz refresh rate supported (higher rates may come at a later date)

  • macOS Big Sur is required for 5K on Mac

💡Luna Display now supports 4K and 5K resolutions on iMacs used as secondary displays when paired with a USB-C Luna unit.

By default, Luna will choose the best resolution for your setup, but you can manually adjust resolution and refresh rate in Luna Display's Preferences panel.

💻 Supported Resolutions

PC:

  • 5K at 30Hz

  • 4K at 60Hz

Mac:

  • 5K at 45Hz

  • 5K at 30Hz

  • 4K at 60Hz

Note: Luna Display currently supports refresh rates up to 60Hz. Support for higher refresh rates may be added in the future, but we do not have a timeline to share just yet.

⚙️ How to Manually Adjust Resolution and Refresh Rate

To manually change resolution settings, open Luna Display Settings and switch from Automatic to 4K or 5K depending on your needs.

If you're using Computer-to-iPad mode and experiencing blur, try lowering your refresh rate or switching off Retina resolution depending on what your computer supports.

💡 Tip: If your secondary display looks blurry and your computer supports it, enabling Retina mode may help improve clarity. You can enable this on the main Luna Display window.
