Windows: Display connection might be limited

Updated over a month ago

Quick answer:

  • "Display connection might be limited" means your USB-C port lacks DisplayPort Alt Mode or Thunderbolt

  • Must plug into GPU, not motherboard USB-C ports

  • Look for ⚡ or DisplayPort logos next to compatible ports

  • Check PC specs for DisplayPort Alt Mode or Thunderbolt support

  • Some Dell/Alienware desktops have incompatible USB-C ports

🔌 What Does This Error Mean?

If you see a message like this when plugging your USB-C Luna into a Windows PC, your USB-C port may not be compatible with Luna Display.

Display connection might be limited

"Display connection might be limited"

  • Make sure the DisplayPort device you're connecting to is supported by your PC.

  • Select this message when it appears for more troubleshooting info available on your Windows PC.

Note: USB-C ports on motherboards are not compatible with Luna Display. Luna Display must be plugged directly into the GPU.

⚠️ What This Means

This message appears when Luna is plugged into a USB-C port that doesn't support DisplayPort Alternate Mode or Thunderbolt. Luna requires a USB-C port that supports one of these display modes to function properly. Standard USB-C data-only ports won't work.

🔍 How to Check if Your Port Works with Luna

  • Look for a Thunderbolt ⚡ or DisplayPort logo next to the port on your PC.
