How do I install Luna Display's HiDPI extension to enable retina on Mac?

Updated over a month ago

Mac-to-iPad Mode Only

If you are unable to click "Allow" for the HiDPI extension in Security & Privacy, macOS/Gatekeeper may be blocking it. Here are some troubleshooting steps:

🗃️ 1. Disable Third-Party Apps

Apps that modify mouse or trackpad behavior can interfere. Try disabling these apps before clicking "Allow":

  • MagicPrefs

  • Synergy

  • BetterTouchTool

  • HyperDock

  • Any other app that can modify mouse or trackpad behavior

⚙️ 2. Use Safe Mode

If using a hardware mouse doesn’t work, restart your Mac in Safe Mode and try clicking "Allow" again. Safe Mode disables third-party plugins.

How to Restart in Safe Mode:

For Intel-based Macs:

  • Restart your Mac.

  • Immediately press and hold the Shift key.

  • Release the Shift key when the Apple logo appears.

  • Once in Safe Mode, try clicking "Allow."

  • Restart your Mac normally to exit Safe Mode.

For Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3) Macs:

  • Shut down your Mac completely.

  • Press and hold the power button until you see "Loading startup options."

  • Select your startup disk.

  • Press and hold the Shift key, then click Continue in Safe Mode.

  • Once in Safe Mode, try clicking "Allow."

  • Restart your Mac normally to exit Safe Mode.

📋 3. Other Methods to Try

  • Close the Luna Mac app and try again.

  • Turn off Wi-Fi and click "Allow."

  • Use a hardware mouse to click "Allow."
