⌨️ Why Create a Keyboard Shortcut?
If you're using Luna Display in Headless Mode and need to relaunch the app without plugging in an external monitor, you can create a keyboard shortcut to launch Luna Display on your primary Mac.
By default, you can use Command + Q to quit Luna. However, macOS doesn't allow keyboard shortcuts to launch apps without a little setup, so we'll walk you through how to create one using Automator and Shortcuts.
🛠️ Create a Shortcut to Launch Luna Display
1. Open Automator: Go to Finder > Applications > Automator
2. Create a new Quick Action: Click New Document and select Quick Action as the document type.
3. Set the workflow to receive "No input" In the top bar of Automator, set "Workflow receives current" to No input.
4. Add the "Launch Application" action From the Actions panel on the left, search for and drag in Launch Application.
5. Select the Luna Display app From the dropdown in the Launch Application block, choose Other… and select Luna Display from your Applications folder.
6. Save the workflow Go to File > Save and name it something like Launch Luna Display.
7. Open the Shortcuts app Go to Finder > Applications > Shortcuts and launch the app.
8. Locate your saved workflow
Use Finder to go to:
Finder > Users > [your username] > Library > Services
Or go to Finder > Go > Go to Folder... and enter: /Users/[your username]/Library/Services
9. Drag the workflow into Shortcuts
Drag the Launch Luna Display workflow into the Shortcuts app.
10. Assign your keyboard shortcut In the Shortcuts app, double-click your new shortcut. Click the ⓘ icon in the top right and check both:
Use as Quick Action
Services Menu
Then click Add Keyboard Shortcut and enter: Command + 9
✅ You're All Set! You can now press Command + 9 to launch Luna Display without needing an external monitor — perfect for Headless Mode.
