Can I use Luna Display with an eGPU?

Learn if Luna is compatible with eGPUs and how to troubleshoot eGPU-related issues.

🖥️ Using Luna Display with an eGPU

Luna Display can work with external GPUs (eGPUs), but we have only tested the Blackmagic eGPUs sold by Apple.

⚠️ Important: Luna Display will only use the eGPU if the Luna hardware is plugged directly into the eGPU. If you plug Luna into your Mac instead, it will default to using the internal GPU.

🛠️ Troubleshooting eGPU Compatibility

If you're using an eGPU that is not a Blackmagic eGPU, Luna may still work, but we cannot guarantee compatibility.

If you experience issues, try the following:

  • Ensure Luna Display is plugged directly into the eGPU.

  • Check that macOS is set to use the eGPU under System Settings > Displays > Use eGPU when available.

  • Restart both your Mac and eGPU after connecting.

For the best performance, ensure your eGPU is properly connected and configured in macOS.
