Why aren't my shortcuts working with a non-QWERTY keyboard layout? - Mac

Mac shortcut workarounds for keyboard layouts like AZERTY & QWERTZ

Updated this week

📋 Fix for non-QWERTY keyboards:

  • Edit shortcuts in Astropad Studio's Workspace menu (recommended)

  • Switch to U.S. keyboard temporarily while using Studio

  • Common fixes: AZERTY users change to Command+W, QWERTZ users change to Command+Y

⚙️ Editing Shortcuts (Recommended)

Adjust the Undo and Redo shortcuts (or any others that aren't working) in the Edit Shortcuts menu:

  1. Open Astropad Studio and click Workspace to open the menu

  2. In the Workspace menu, click Edit Shortcuts

  3. Select the shortcut you want to change, then click Clear Keys. Enter the correct keystroke based on your keyboard layout

  4. Click Save to confirm your changes

⌨️ Common Keyboard Layout Fixes

🇫🇷 AZERTY (French) Keyboard

Change these shortcuts:

  • Undo: Command+W (instead of Command+Z)

  • Redo: Shift+Command+W (instead of Shift+Command+Z)

💡 Key tip: Using Studio's on-screen keyboard? Press W. Using physical AZERTY keyboard? Press Z.

🇩🇪 QWERTZ (German/Swiss) Keyboard

Change these shortcuts:

  • Undo: Command+Y (instead of Command+Z)

  • Redo: Shift+Command+Y (instead of Shift+Command+Z)

💡 Key tip: Using Studio's on-screen keyboard? Press Y. Using physical QWERTZ keyboard? Press Z.

🔄 Switch to U.S. Keyboard (Alternative)

Go to System Preferences/Settings > Keyboard > Input Sources and add the U.S. keyboard. Switch back to your preferred layout after using Studio.

⚠️ Special Note: Clip Studio Paint

Swiss-German keyboard users: Clip Studio Paint doesn't fully support Undo/Redo gestures. Switch to U.S. layout or use these gestures:

  • Undo: Tap screen with 3 fingers

  • Redo: Tap screen with 2 fingers
