🎬 What is the Codec setting?
Workbench gives you the option to choose a video codec, which controls how your Mac's display is compressed and streamed to your iPad or iPhone. The codec setting is based on the type of content you're working with, not your connection speed.
📋 Codec Options
Automatic (Recommended)
Automatic is the best choice for most users. It uses adaptive logic to get the best of both codecs depending on what's happening on your screen at any given moment.
H.265
H.265 performs best when there are lots of large screen changes, like scrolling through pages, playing video, or working with motion heavy content.
Liquid
Liquid is great with higher quality rendering when smaller portions of the screen are changing or changing less frequently, like working in a text editor, spreadsheet, or design tool with a mostly static layout.
✅ Which should I use?
For most users, Automatic is the right choice and requires no adjustment. If you notice quality issues with a specific type of work, you can try switching manually:
Lots of scrolling, video, or motion → try H.265
Mostly static content like text, code, or design work → try Liquid
Not sure → stick with Automatic
