Basic Setup for Workbench on Mac

A guide on the basic setup and accessibility settings that are necessary for Workbench

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Step 1: Download & Install

Download the Workbench app for your device:

Step 2: Sign In

Open the Workbench app and sign in using the same method you chose when creating your account (email, Apple, or Google).

Don't have an account yet? Learn how to create one:

💡Note: Workbench requires its own account. An existing Astropad Studio account cannot be used to sign into Workbench.

Step 3: Choose Your Setup

After signing in, you'll be asked how you want to use Workbench on this device:

  • Connect to another Mac: use this device to remotely access another Mac

  • Enable this computer for remote access: allow this Mac to be accessed remotely from another device

Step 4: Grant Permissions

A Homework window will appear after your selection, guiding you through the permissions Workbench needs. You can also enable these manually at any time through System Settings.

♿ Accessibility

Enable the toggle next to Workbench when prompted.

⚙️ Path: System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility

🖥️ Screen Recording

⚙️ Path: System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen & System Audio Recording

When prompted: "Requesting to bypass the system private window picker and directly access your screen and audio"— click Allow.

📡 Local Network

When prompted: "Allow Workbench to find devices on local networks?" — click Allow.

⚙️ Path: System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network

⚠️ macOS 15 Sequoia or later: Local Network permission is required for a successful connection.

Accessing Settings in the Workbench Mac App

You can find Workbench settings by clicking the Settings icon in the Workbench Mac app. This is where you can manage Remote Access, display preferences, and other options.
